Occupy Needs to Separate to Unite

I’m heading to North Carolina with my first stop in Charlotte to research labor organizations protesting at the Democratic National Convention. As with any national action like this, groups build alliances. In this case, two of the main forces are Occupy and labor. They have come together under the banner of Occupy Wall Street South. These two movements are natural allies given the focus on social class, yet their organizing philosophies differ dramatically, or do they? I’ll be tweeting about their upcoming actions, but meanwhile, here is a blog post I wrote for Mobilizing Ideas on how unions and occupy came together – and didn’t – in Oakland on May 1: Occupy Needs to Separate to Unite. What will be in store for Labor Day? Stay tuned @schradie.
